It's a scorching day across the league on Tuesday with most outdoor games expecting temperatures in the 80s and 90s. The only exceptions are on the West Coast where it will be in the high 50s at Oracle and around 70° at Petco Park.
The slate gets started in Baltimore this afternoon where it will approach 100° for Game 1 of the Blue Jays / Orioles doubleheader. There won't be much wind but the hot weather will help Camden Yards lean hitter friendly on Tuesday.
Yankee Stadium is rated a top park for homers this evening with 90° and moderate wind blowing out toward the short porch in right. Due to its lopsided shape, The Bronx venue isn't particularly good for singles and doubles which makes it less friendly to scoring than some of the more balanced stadiums.
Sacramento's typical summer conditions are expected at Sutter Health Park tonight with 90° to start the game and double-digit wind blowing out to left-center. The minor league venue has been particularly receptive to wind this season, averaging 3.2 home runs over 32 games when there's 10+ mph wind blowing out.
Great American Ball Park has been a top-tier HR venue since it debuted back in 2003, due mostly to its small dimensions. It's facing a rare stretch without very many dingers, averaging just over one homer per game in the past month. While there are probably many reasons for this not related to the park itself, GABP does appear to be less friendly to home runs this year after accounting for batter contact. While stadium effects are pretty resilient over time, the model is adjusting GABP down a bit in reaction to what it's been seeing. It's still rated positive on Tuesday with 90° expected in Cincinnati.
